How's your February going? For Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, two members of Pussy Riot, this month has been pretty eventful with appearances on The Colbert Report, an Amnesty International Concert, then the two being kicked out of and reinstated (?) into Pussy Riot, before showing up at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi only to be assaulted. I wrote at length about Maria and Nadya's ouster from the group only to find the duo reinstated (if they were ever actually out of Pussy Riot) a few days later. To be honest, I dismissed a large part of the whole inclusion/exclusion aspect as I'm sure anyone whose been involved with bands or performance art groups knows, it's as difficult to keep together as herding cats no matter what you're fighting against and what the ideals and aspirations are. The assault on Pussy Riot members in Sochi showed shit get real again as the group was detained and physically brutalized by uniformed Cossack police. What about? Well, this, a wonderfully ironic and disturbing video that shows, well, attacks by uniformed Cossack police and dancing with Sochi's mascot, a man in a bear suit. What better way to attack hypocrisy than to make it work for you. Shirtless Putin not in the video. Sorry, mares.
