Joseph Childress's "Whispering Tide" is an exuberant, finger-picked travelling tale. As the guitar drives along, Childress's vocals recall Rejoicing in the Hands-era Devendra Banhart and The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. His exclamations outside of the melody line are pure joy as Childress promises the joys of departure and commitment to the horizon. The spare, lo-fi production matches perfectly with what this song is: a perfect snapshot of a moment rendered, unadorned through song.
"Whispering Tide" is out on The Rebirths, Childress's first record on Empty Cellar Records.
