Track Of The Day: of Montreal - "Fugitive Air"

It's about time of Montreal fans like myself just give up trying to predict where the band is going next in their exploration of sound.  From the 90's Beatles inspired tunes to their dance phase to the Georgie Fruit experiment to now, of Montreal is just asking their fans to enjoy the ride.  Their newest offering, "Fugitive Air" is a bouncy Neil Young feeling cut that still allows Kevin Barnes to do his thing, just this time with an upbeat southern rock background.  The necessary of Montreal harmonies reappear throughout the song and just about everything feels right, even though this is new ground for a band that has been changing the genre channel for close to two decades.  The more time I spend writing about music, the more my favorites like The Fiery Furnaces, Deerhoof, and of Montreal confirm my want from a "favorite band": to explore new sounds while leaving their own artistic fingerprint on the final work.  of Montreal has done this once again.
