Once upon a time, I had one of those transcendent concert moments with Laura Veirs. This was in LA and she was opening for Colin Meloy, and right as Veirs sang "my mackinaw feels too tight" I could swear to God she was looking at me. Then she said something about Built to Spill which corroborated what I had felt because people say I look like Doug Martsch. Anyway, that was my introduction to Veirs -- one of those songwriters who is probably criminally under appreciated. I mean, all she does is write solid songs with intricate lyrics which blur the distinction between the mundane and the exceptional.
"Sun Song" appears on Veirs upcoming record Warp & Weft and features Neko Case on backing vocals. Warp & Weft will be out August 19 via Bella Union.
Just heard this on "The United States of Americanna" on The Current---loved it!
