Whilst we wait for Neko Case's follow up to her 2009 release Middle Cyclone, the alt-chanteuse has been dropping nuggets of tracks for the past couple years on the Hunger Games Soundtrack and now for Stephen King, T. Bone Burnett, & John Mellencamp's musical Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, which seems to be a musical a la Randy Newman's fantastic and underrated Faust where some high profile folks are selected to croon.
Case's contribution is a foot-stamper of a country track with sinewy instrumental adornment. Like a lot of Case's work, it's definitely self-assured -- "Put you down when you ain't around / And kick you when you fall / that's who I am."
As for Case's new album, still no definitive word on when the date of its release but if you're jonesing, this track as well as Case's numerous contributions to her New Pornographer bandmate, AC Newman's 2012 release Shut Down the Streets.
