If there's one record that I had to choose for not getting its due last year, it would probably be Lia Ices Grown Unknown. Perhaps its because the Brooklyn-based chanteuse creates languid songs that take a while unravel themselves. As on "Little Marriage" the spareness is deceiving and often disjointed.
On "Wish You Were Here," Ices's voice seems to whip around (stereo is a necessity here) transforming Pink Floyd's classic plaintive ballad into a siren song.
