05.) Mother Mother – O My Heart

Mother Mother’s 2007 release “Touch Up” was my number two album of that year and now they hit again at the number five spot. This band is packed with pitch perfect voices and there isn’t a wasted track on this beautiful album.

04.) Thao with the Get Down Stay Down – We Brave Bees Stings and All

Where did she come from? Where has she been my entire life? I think Hank called me and said I should check out this album...and well, thanks buddy. I can't think of an album this year that made me smile more...it's just full of toe tapping sound candy for the ears. Not sure what that means, but check out the album.

03.) Foals – Antidotes

This was my front-runner for the longest time, but two albums edged it out. They wear their guitars neck level and rock back in forth to some of the best math-rock songs ever written. The whole album works as a collection of singles and "Cassius" is definitely one of best songs of 2008.

02.) Late of the Pier – Fantasy Black Channel

SYNTHS! SYNTHS! I would like to make a lofty statement: This is the best synth driven album of all time. Yes, I said it. The album is aggressive, dirty, and at times sexy. I think LOTP has a bright future and this is one of the most impressive debut LP's in a long time.

01.) DeerhunterMicrocastle/Weird Era Cont.

This album is in my top five of the decade. It brings out the same emotions I felt when listening to "OK Computer". I'm already hailing this album as a classic and I believe in a few years it will be the same for many more people. The PERFECT '08 release.

  1. Interesting picks here. Lots of new names for me to check out. Although, I was surprised to hear no mention of The War On Drugs' first full-length album "Wagonwheel Blues"
