When Angel Olsen signed to Jagjaguwar back in April, perhaps the best part was that there was bound to be a new album on the way. And sure enough, we can add Olsen to add to the slate of early 2014 albums by fantastic female singer-songwriters including Marissa Nadler and Tara Jane O'Neil who have also graced our TotD list over the past weeks. Olsen's offering "Forgiven/Forgotten" is a straight-ahead rocker that showcases her slow-burning vocals in a way that we haven't heard them before -- driven by a hard hitting percussion and atonal guitar wail at the end of the track. Olsen seems to be going the way of her new labelmate, Sharon Van Etten, who likewise drew away from a noodling acoustic sound to embrace a more raw, vitriolic, garage-rocking sound spearheaded by John Congleton's (The Paper Chase) production. Olsen's new album is called Burn Your Fire for No Witness and lands Feb. 18.
