Foals Live at Subteranean 4/27/08

ZACH THAT:

I'm heading off to the Kentucky derby tomorrow so I'll be absent from my regular posting until Monday. I thought a little review of the Foals live show would be in order since a foal is a young horse...see what I did there...ok.

I've already touted Antidotes as the album of the year so far and bringing that kind of hype into a live show is a dangerous thing to do. However, I was not in the least disappointed by their performance. Yes, it took them nearly an hour to set up and their first song was a mess...but the band found it's grove on "Cassius" and never looked back. Seeing these math rock wizards melt all their riffs together made me appreciate their complicated musical craftsmanship even more. The best song preformed was one I usually skip over on the old iPod, "Two Step, Twice." It was as acid freaks refer to as "mind bending" and garnered the loudest applause of the night. If there were any low points to the show it would be their banter (they were struck by the vastness of America and hated all our sports bars)...but hey, I was there for the music...and music I did receive. It seems like 08' has been a great year for live shows and I can easily claim that this is the can't miss new act. Talent, energy, song selection, a great venue, and all for ten bucks...it made my night...no scratch that, month...yes, month.

Check out some videos from the show (some are right up front and some are not-Two Step, Twice is a must see)
